Living abroad is something Karen and I have aspired to do beginning in 2018. At the time, we entertained buying a sailboat and traveling the world. As we got closer to retirement and COVID-19 appeared, we saw multiple issues with sailing due to closed borders as well as potential issues if either of us should fall ill at sea.
We recharted our plans and decided to move out of the USA to a country with a warmer climate, slower pace, political stability, solid infrastructure, affordable health care with a lower cost of living as compared to the US. After much research we decided Panama would become our new base from which we will travel to new countries and experience new cultures.
By the way, neither of us had ever actually been to Panama before so we took a leap of faith.
As they say, you only live once!
